Boarding School
Architectural Aspects
The client’s wish for a building structure that is as independent as possible from the existing structure is addressed in the present design. An independent building completes the building complex to the southwest. Connections to the existing building are established in the basement in the form of a connecting corridor between the newly created main entrance and the existing cloakrooms. A connecting bridge links the first floor of the existing building with the second floor of the new building.
By raising the building on stilts, the existing courtyard remains open to the southwest, providing a covered outdoor area for the boarding school students. The courtyard can thus be largely preserved in its current design. The continuously elevated building structure allows for the accommodation of the required parking spaces in two parking decks in the southern section. The access points to the existing building behind it are retained.
The boarding school wing itself is clearly structured. On the first floor are those rooms that are also used by the existing building and can be reached quickly via the bridge. Above this, on two floors, are the rooms, which are accessed via a central corridor past a common area and a gallery. The fitness room on the top floor is directly accessible via the stairwell, which is also intended to allow external use.
